In summary, aiding Canada in a personal or professional capacity is considered beneficial to the longstanding, peaceful relationship between the two countries, but acting as a foreign agent to undermine U.S. policy is not allowed.

RENOUNCEMENT. AFTER 2012-2026 & PRIORS 

Renouncing Canadian citizenship is a voluntary, formal process for adults (18+) living outside Canada who already hold or will acquire another country's citizenship. It requires submitting an application, paying a $100 fee, and losing all Canadian rights. Approved applicants must return their citizenship certificate.
